Among the most exciting and unique games shown throughout Friday’s [email protected] indie game showcase has been roguelike Loot River. The title Loot River conjures notions about dungeon crawling, equipment collecting, and a river motif to abstract development. Nevertheless, Loot River itself is rather a little odder than this, catching a Bloodborne-Esque aesthetic using a naturopathic physician and dim beat around each corner. Subsequently, it blends using a 2D puzzle game between altering tiles that just go in certain directions.

To begin, calling Loot River’s aesthetic reminiscent of Bloodborne is not an exaggeration. It opens with a cinematic series of a sparsely lit town of towers across a rising cliff, like this rise into Dracula’s Castle, with a river running through it. The levels are dilapidated and littered with coffins, skeletons, dripping blood, black cubes, and cryptic sorceries. There is a calm central hub space.

Just half of this gameplay matches the Souls-such as description, yet. Loot River includes melee battle with high-risk/high-reward strikes such as a Souls-such as sport, but that is only part of the equation. Players control the motion of programs beneath their feet. These programs may be changed in cardinal directions, making new avenues to avoid or approach enemies. It provides a curious coating of gameplay that is both puzzle-like and tactical. Afterward, as a complete, Loot River requires a roguelike development structure.

Loot River was formally declared for only PC and Xbox consoles, even though it’s not one of Xbox’s many day-one Xbox Pass launch names. That may change later on, possibly as programmer Straka Studio furthers its connection with Xbox or spouses with other games platforms, but for now, a preview along with some historical details are gamers need to contemplate.
