Fortnite’s new Impostors mode sounds suspicious like Among Us

Fortnite has a new model in the Among Us style, and it’s a lot closer than its inspiration. Epic announced the new mode Tuesday as part of Fortnite’s most recent patch.

The new mode, Impostors, is a limited-time game that features 10 players. There are eight Agents and two impostors in each match. The Bridge is the island’s main attraction and all 10 players are there (also similar to Among Us). Agents attempt to accomplish tasks that will allow them to reach their destination safely. Impostors attempt to get rid of the Agents and not reveal their identities. If things become suspicious or if a player’s body is discovered, the rest of the players meet to discuss who the Impostor may be.

This may sound a lot like Among Us but Fortnite’s version has a few more features. Impostors are able to temporarily teleport players to random locations, disorienting them, and hiding their suspicious behaviour. To help players escape from a difficult situation, Impostors can temporarily transform everyone into Peely (Fortnite‘s banana-mascot). They can also use these powers to sabotage The Bridge and slow down Agents’ progress, just like the impostors from Among Us.

Another difference is that voice chat is not available for public matches in Impostors. Players that are already in a group can still use party chat to communicate with each other. However, everyone else can only use emotes or a quick chat feature to send messages about Impostors.

Epic Games tried a hidden-role game type before with “The Spy Within,” a limited-time event in December that also divided players into teams of eight agents and two infiltrators. This mode lasted for approximately a month.

Fortnite has a new gameplay update. It replaces Epic and rarer guns, assault rifles and sniper rifles and makes them more powerful. This update is part of Fortnite‘s Wild Weeks. Each week, a small portion of the game will be adjusted as the story’s alien invasion becomes closer.

The Fortnite mode Impostors is now available. It should be up for at least one week. Epic has not yet given an end date.
